For years I had sponsored children through Compassion International, and at one time had six sponsored children.

At 18 years of age, the children were apparently no longer considered children, and they were not carried by the program.  Some governments decided they did not want to work with the organization, and the one in Haiti failed to tell me the program was ending, so I was unable to get out a last letter. I was only able to maintain contact with the Indonesian girl through letters ...and then on Facebook, which I felt blessed by.

Then the boy I had sponsored from Columbia also found me on Facebook ...another blessing.

I also had a child from Honduras that I've lost contact with.  Many churches and charitable organizations are stepping up to help out with the Honduras children who've been transported by bus to our border ...now needing food, shelter, and medical care.

Many people with money have donated, and many who don't have much have also contributed.  We don't have much and have five children of our own to take care of, but my wife donated a significant amount to help care for the children.

With so many giving money and services, the dialogue still remains that our general population doesn't care for the poor.

Caring come in many forms ...not just dialogue.

What if those who have felt they are unable to give ...would volunteer to take some of these children into their homes, and then the government would take care of this 'supplemental' they say they are proposing??

The problem is:  Some of these people who agree we should care for these children, are saying that others don't care.  But, the ones who are mostly carelessly accusing have also promoted their own personal rights not to care for the needs of others within the group of these defenseless poor.  So many are also in favor of abortion ...stating it is their personal right, arguing that it would inconvenience them to have the child they've already conceived.  So, they think caring for a healthy baby would inconvenience them ...then how would they feel about caring for an unhealthy child, with unknown diseases??  I think they should be cared for ...yet, I also think the unborn should be protected.  And I think it disingenuous when the loudest ones to argue for the poor, are also the ones who loudly argue for abortion rights.

I worked in a Mental Institution ...and saw a very loving married couple who wanted children, and adopted a child who was already a couple years old.  Yet, when they encountered behaviors they felt they could not handle, the child had to experience institutionalization .  It takes love, but it also takes capability.  I give them credit, because they were willing to try ...and they sought help and guidance when they felt they could no longer endure.  They did not cut ties with the child.  And they didn't want the child to grow up reckless, on the streets, and easy prey to gangs or countless other opportunistic groups. These are the bad capitalists ...those who use force and violence, to capitalize and exploit.

If you know someone who is having difficulty with the circumstances surrounding a pregnancy ...provide them with real help, not advising them to have an abortion.  Abortion is violent too.

If you want to help with the poor ...also support that developing child.

If a person had 5 billion dollars, and gave 4 billion to the poor ...that would be giving 4/5 to the poor, yet some would see a million dollar home, three expensive cars, and a boat in the yard.  And that's all they would see, and they'd call them the rich ...and they'd hate them.

If 100 people lived in a town, and the entire town was poor ...but a rich man came, and offered them all jobs.  Suppose 95 of the people accepted the jobs and began living well ...but 5 people refused to work, as they preferred to stand on the street corners and ask for handouts from those now doing well.

Some people would say that rich man is not sharing his wealth with those 5 poor people. Others would say he helped 95 poor people.

Margaret Thatcher said that socialism is a great program, until you run out of other people's money. 

Our country pretends to voice a concern for the environment, while regulating our country to the point of sending jobs abroad ...where there is little or no regulation, yet concern for global warming or climate change concerns somehow ignore the simplicity of that absurdity.  If we relax the regulations, and keep the jobs here ...that would help employ our people, and "strengthen the hand of the poor".

It is often said that Jesus told the rich to give what they had to the poor.

Jesus also told the poor to give to the rich ...to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

It didn't appear that Jesus was trying to change Herod, Caesar, the Pharisees, the High Priests ...though He would welcome their change of heart, He likely didn't see it as ripe for the harvest.

There were many starving ...not just physically, but spiritually.

Jesus also said the poor will be with us always ...yet, He was feeding them where they most hungered.  When the thousands who had been listening to Him became hungry ...He took the loaves and the fish, to adequately distribute it.

When following Jesus, we can do much with little also.

We cannot always change the hearts of others, nor should we force them to do what we think they should do.  It serves us best to genuinely search out our own hearts, and do what we feel led to do ...instead of spending all our effort critiquing what others are not doing.
